About Air Force Association Odisha

Our History

In July 1992, few Air Veterans enquired on ex-servicemen quota based on an advertisement by soil conservation department. They were ignored and humiliated by the officials. This incident made them to draft a letter addressed to AFA, New Delhi requesting to set up a branch in Odisha so that welfare related matters can be resolved at appropriate level in the state. The letter was honoured and all of them received a positive reply in Oct 1992 on setting up AFA, Odisha branch. Till then the branches of Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar were functioning as a single organization at Adv HQ EAC, Fort William, Calcutta.

The Air Force Association branch became independent in the year 1993 and operated from state capital Bhubaneswar since then. In Jan 1993, Gp Capt SS Dash, VSM was appointed as the First President of AFA, Odisha Branch”. AV Sgt JK Mohapatra became the first Secretary of AFA, Odisha Branch. First meeting was held in Mar 1993 at the President’s residence, Sailashree Vihar attended by six members only. Air Force Association, Odisha is a branch of Air Force Association, New Delhi (refer Regd. No. S/11186 Dt. 15 Sep 80).

This is one of the two ex-servicemen associations in India recognized by MoD & GOI. There are more than 8000 (eight thousand) Air Veterans in Odisha till Dec 2024.
